About

I’m Beth, and I hope to be your Library Guide, both literally and figuratively.

I love books and reading!  I also love learning new things, exploring new ideas, and building community with others who share my passions.  This blog is about sharing information of interest and value that I hope will be uplifting and useful.

As a librarian my job has been to help people gain access to the right information at the right time using the best resources.  I hope to continue doing that with this blog.  Like most librarians, I know a little about a lot of things, and my goal is always to know more.  I’m much more comfortable with a small group of friends talking around the dinner table than in a large group, and I hope this blog will feel like a gathering of friends who have similar interests.

I’ve had four careers so far.  I’m was an English and Theatre teacher, school media specialist, college reference librarian, and public librarian.  At the same time, I’ve also run two theatre companies and a student volunteer center, worked on political campaigns, and volunteered for multiple nonprofit organizations. I’ve been a caregiver.  I enjoy the arts, family history and genealogy, general history and politics, and spending time reading, thinking, and having conversations that matter.  All of this is to say, I will be writing about a lot of things, some personal, some of current interest, and some just because I find them interesting.

Reading, learning, and discussion make us better people and better citizens.  Change is inevitable.  We need to keep learning to survive.  There is a lot of misinformation out there, and we all have to do our best to find the truth underneath it all.

I hope my blog will be a small part of what you find helpful in keeping you learning.

Beth Thompson
